History

Morgal was founded by Frank Morgal in 1939 and operated as a tool & die and special fixture manufacturer. Friend and neighbor, John C. McGregor, Sr. purchased the business from Frank in 1965 and continued operations as a tool & die manufacturer. Dan McGregor joined the company in 1968, as office manager.

By 1970 the business had outgrown the original facility and operations were moved to the present manufacturing location in Springfield, Ohio.

In 1971, John McGregor, still employed by Mast Foos Company (the first domestic manufacturer of riding lawn mower kits, sold to Huffman Manufacturing now (Huffy Corporation)), recognized the need for a source of quality stamped metal sprockets for the differential units that were used in those mowers. That same year, John left Mast Foos and became actively involved in the daily operations at Morgal. That was the year Morgal produced its first stamped metal sprocket for the lawn & garden industry, ONE TOOTH AT A TIME!

Within one year, Jim McGregor joined Morgal as its production manager. This was the same year that Morgal manufactured its first die to stamp a sprocket complete with one stroke of a punch press. This sprocket was sold to the Toro Company and it was the beginning of a series of major capital investments that enabled Morgal to establish a "niche" in the market of stamped metal sprockets and related assemblies.

Twenty-five years and untold additional investments in capital equipment and facility expansions later, Morgal has grown from a company with $3.5 million in annual sales, to its current level...in excess of $30 million per year. Morgal's employment has grown to over 130 associates at this location, and has established four sister companies, Ohio Stamping & Machine LLC (OSMI), Rose City Manufacturing, Carmichael Machine, and SC Metal Products.

Morgal now manufactures quality stamped sprockets, split steel pulleys and contract metal stampings for over 200 active accounts in the automotive, transportation, lawn & garden, bicycle, agricultural, material handling, recreational vehicle and door operator industries.

With its most recent addition to the tool & die area, Morgal now conducts operations in what has grown to an 104,000 square foot facility, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and manufacturing technology.

It has been quite an impressive and successful entrepreneurial journey from relatively modest beginnings in 1965, to the present corporate structure which provides employment and skills training for 450 associates and generates in excess of $75 million dollars in annual revenues.

It is our goal to be the very best at what we do and we recognize the value of continuous skills training as an important element of the future success of our businesses and the individual growth and success of all our associates.
